Education Academy (16-22 years)

What Is The Education Academy About?
The Taranaki Rugby League in conjunction with Tony Kemp of Te Ara Ltd and the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) has developed an academic based programme that will enable members of the Taranaki Rugby League access to further learning, employment and sporting opportunities.  These opportunities have been made available through a Rugby League Education Academy based at WITT.

Who Can Apply?
Anyone! As long you have a keen interest in rugby league, education and improving your own personal self.

First year student's entry criteria:
•    16-22yrs of age (provide certified copy of full birth certificate or passport)
•    NCEA level 1 or less
•    Must have own transport to attend course
•    Must complete all sections of the application process (i.e. application, fitness testing and interview)

Second year student's entry criteria:
•    Must have successfully completed year one of the academy programme. Age not a factor
•    Must also complete application process (i.e. application, complete fitness testing and interview)
•    Must be enrolled in fulltime study at WITT

What's Involved In The Programme?
The Education Academy programme involves three key components. These components are:
•    Education (WITT)
•    Life Skills (Tony Kemp/Te Ara Ltd)
•    Sport (Taranaki Rugby League)

What Do I Get Out Of The Programme?
The expected outcomes of the Education Academy students include:
•    WITT Certificate in Pōkaitahi Mana Tangata (Empowering People) including:
    -    NCEA 1 and NCEA 2
    -    National Certificate in Fitness – Foundation Skills Level 2
•    Pathways to further learning and employment
•    Support and direction to find a career in the industry of your choice
•    Life skill and social development

•    Being apart of a close-knit team environment
•    Character building through positive role modelling
•    A pathway into professional rugby league

Applications are due by Monday 18th January 2010 and can be submitted in person at the academy presentation if you wish to do so after learning more about what the programme has to offer. Please refer to your letter of invitation for further details on the recruitment process.
